Librarians Wanted

Requirements:
1. Be literate
2. Enjoy sitting
3. Be able to shush people
4. Repeat
I wonder why librarians are so crabby, they have the simplest job ever. Their only purpose is to make sure people don't jack books, and when was the last time you heard of an armed Library robbery? Intense research isn't necessary to understand the Dewey-Decimal System. I know they're necessary. I also know that being pissed all the time when you've got nothing to do but read magazines all day isn't. Cheer up. Name an easier job, you can't.

Poor, deluded, misguided, misinformed Cham. How do you think the library resources get selected? How do they get on the shelves, in such a way that people can find them? How does information about these library resources appear in the catalogues? How do damaged resources get repaired? Who keeps the library computers running? Who teaches those who are clearly not as gifted as you how to find information in a library? I could go on for many hours here, but I have to (apparently) go and read some magazines. You are exactly right, but you missed the point. I said they serve a purpose. But is it too much to ask for them to smile and enjoy it rather than being constantly annoyed? No. If you are a librarian, I hope you are a pleasant one.
My favorite librarian is google.

I'm a librarian and I smile (and giggle, for that matter) all of the time. I think I've shushed people a grand total of four times in the last eight months. Smile at a librarian and see what happens. You might be surprised. Most of us these days are actually quite nice, especially to people who are nice back.

Smiling and enjoying it-- :) -- Kelly

Gee, have you been in a library lately? You might be very surprised.
Were you being nice? It is generally those who misbehave who get the "unsmiling" treatment. Give yourself a treat and visit a library, maybe volunteer and you will find that there's more to working in a library than sitting behind a desk all day!
